Syria

Syria lies on the eastern Mediterranean, bordered by Turkey, Iraq, Jordan, Israel and Lebanon. Damascus and Aleppo rank among the oldest continuously inhabited cities. Syria became independent from French mandate rule in 1946.

Horizontal green, white and black bands, with three red five-pointed stars in a row across the white band. This design was first adopted in the 1930s, under the French mandate.
