Paraguay is a landlocked country in the heart of South America, split by the Paraguay River into a green, populated east and the dry Gran Chaco to the west. Independent from Spain since 1811, it is one of the few countries where an Indigenous language, Guarani, is spoken by most people alongside Spanish.
