Mozambique

Capital is Maputo, on a wide bay in the far south. Mozambique won independence from Portugal in 1975 and keeps Portuguese as its official language. Its Indian Ocean coast runs about 2,500 km, and the Zambezi crosses the country on its way to the sea.
