Costa Rica

Costa Rica lies between Nicaragua and Panama, with coasts on both the Caribbean and the Pacific and a spine of volcanoes and cloud forest between them. Independent from Spain since 1821, it is known for ecotourism and its stable democracy.

Blue for the sky and opportunity, white for peace, red for the blood of those who fought for freedom. The coat of arms shows three volcanoes between two oceans. Adopted in 1848.
